Aim for Change has expanded to support over 40 projects in many different areas of Uganda. These include the original village of Kokoa. In all Aim for Change has supplied many hundreds of pigs, cows, goats and chicken. The pigs are now breeding well. Where a project has achieved self sufficiency, the animals are being sold or passed on to other villages. Money raised is then used to pay for education.

Kokoa Village

Kokoa is a small village in the Luwero district, North of Lake Victoria and Kampala. The region lies at 3000 ft above sea level and experiences high temperatures and rainfall. The Luwero district has a population of 450 thousand, most of whom live in rural areas. There is one hospital (104 beds) and 22 health centres.

Kokoa itself has a small hospital with one doctor and two nurses.  We have started a sewing workshop project at the AIDS clinic to enable the patients to be self supporting. In 2006 with help from the James Tudor foundation we were able to supply a large quantity of medical equipment, including mosquito nets (see below). Medicines, dressings and food are supplies to this hospital regularly.

Food crops in the area include Cassava, sweet potatoes, maize, ground nuts, Soya beans and Irish potatoes. Aim for Change has purchased a 5 acre plot of land (see picture above) which has been cleared and planted with Cassava, beans, maize and soon Vanilla. This will provide food for the orphanage in Kampala, Kokoa and surrounding districts. We have recently purchased 2 further areas of land for cultivation- 5 acres and 10 acres.

Luwero is one of the areas that was devastated by war over 10 years ago. Agriculture and livestock rearing came to a halt. Most people are subsistence farmers, although there are several large scale farms in the region. In 2006 we funded a second bore hole in Labongo village, Masindi district- double-click on play to watch a short video about the impact this water bore-hole is having on the village
